I noticed my flowerhorns stomach got huge last weekend and he has been sitting in the corner of his tank. He seemed to be constipated and finally went #2 and it came out white and stringy. His stomach is back to normal now but he isn't eating anymore. He will try to eat but always ends up spitting it back out. And he spends all day sitting in the corner of his aquarium. I used metro and bifuran as recommended by the local aquarium but he does not seem to be getting any better. Any ideas? :(

Sounds like he may have some internal parasites. There are some different methods to curing it. There is an Epsom salt solution thread that you can soak pellets in, but in your case he's not eating. Personally I've had luck with PraziPro. Best of luck. Keep us posted.

Sounds like bloat not internal parasites and it's constipated. Don't feed and add epsom salt like the other person stated. If his poop is white and stringy then it may be parasites. Blood worms are a perfect example of a food that causes constipation because of the high protein and no fiber in the diet. Bloodworms are the

What type of food are you feeding? If the fish will eat, try feeding softened (barely cooked), pealed, quartered peas or pre-soaked freeze-dried or fresh Daphnia. Presoaked meaning just soaked in water prior to feeding. Not trying to sound like a smart ass.

If it's not constipation, I'd say treatment for dropsy is your best bet. These 2 always result in similar ways, but treating for constipation first is the best route.

When he finally pooped it was white and stringy. I have always feed him hikari gold. He will take food but after 20-30 seconds he spits it back out.

yeah white poop can still be constipated or internal parasites, clear poop is usually internal parasites and it's shedding intestinal lining to rid of the parasite. The medication the previous poster indicated should work. Or anything that gets rid of internal worms. Usually the stomach doesn't bloat from internal parasites though, it takes on a more wasted/thinning of the belling look. If he's eating definitely try to get some softened peas and soak the pellets in a medication before feeding. If not, you can move to a smaller tank and use a desired medication. I still think it's constipation or dropsy..any other syptoms? If feeding, try to give him something with high fiber.

Here's some medications you could try using. Anything with metronidazole as the main ingredient is for internal parasites. Before using any of these medications, fast your fish the day prior.

I don't know how well each individual one works.

Gel-Tek Ultra Cure PX - Not familiar with this but claims to do what it says it does.

Jungle - Food Medication

Clout - This seems to work a lot with some users and again treats other types of harmful diseases with fish.

PraziPro -

Paraguard - I like this cause it treats other stuff simultaneously which is always good since secondary infections can take hold while your fish is sick.

Parasite Guard - Treats multiple diseases. I've used this and it yellows water.

There's a ton more.

Sounds like he's Overfed, #1 cause of death, bigger fish have a slower metabolism and need to be fed less. This happens to all of us once or twice, with community there always seems to be one fish that eats way more then any other, then u compensate for the others and he dies.

Sorry, hope he gets better, just don't feed a few days
