A friend of mine has/had a flowerhorn(I have him now) he calls me and says he won't eat anymore... So I said try some small pieces of earthworm... So he says he ate it,so I'm like cool.. He calls me today and says he stopped eating a couple days ago and now has white poo hanging... And says come get him and try to save him.... So I pick him up tank and all get him home and do a 25% WC and go and get some metro from the lfs and some fd bloodworms to soak in garlic guard and Epsom salt... I know his stomach is BLOATED something serious and the white poo is it hex? Here's a pic of him feel so sorry for the little guy... also all the water params are good an the temp is 79-81... Any advise will be takin with great appreciation... Also why is it my friends with the sick or malnutrition fish geeeez....

I did a epsom salt bath and medicated his tank. Should I repeat the salt bath after a certain time? Just looking for some kind of treatment to try instead of watching him just die... even though he's not mine I want to help the little guy and seeming i'm into keeping fish I think it would be a good learning curve just sad he has to go thru it... Thanks Again Ohh and its the weekend so I can stay up all night treating and observing as the kids don't have school in the am I can sleep in yaaaaay!!!!!

It diffacult from a picture to determine weather this is parasitic or bacterial in nature. Do a 50% water cjange and treat with API General Cure it's a combination of Metro & Prazi. Dose per intstructions on package. Remove any carbon if you're using any. Also add salt at 1 tablespoon per five gallons of tank water. If and when the fish starts eating again soak some food in one packet of meds using just enough water to desolve the powder. Let this soak for about 20-30 mins depending on the food you don't want it to disintegrate then pour the entire contents into the tank. If this is bacterial we may have to add an antibiotic but try this first and see how it works. If we do need to add additional meds or switch meds your water perameters in numbers (not just good) will be necessary. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, Ph and hardness if available.

I have used seachem Metro and I have prazipro liquid, should I just dose the tank with the prazipro also? As I already started the metro treatment. If it starts eating again than I'll switch to api general cause I'm not sure how much of the prazipro liquid to mix in with the metro and garlic guard it doesn't have a feeding dose recommend on it . I did a 50%wc last night and the water params are Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 10 and Ph is 7.2-7.4 It's in a 15gal hospital tank so no worries on cost of meds and what would be the other meds if these don't work and what do the other meds fight or help fight so I can store it in my knowledge.. Thanks I really appreciate it.

Yes you can dose the Prazi according to the directions nothing special about adding it. The ideal antibiotic would be Kanamycin however it is sometimes diffacult to find. Another alturnative would be Maracyn 2, not as effective as Kana would be for this but still usable. We'll cross that bridge if and when we come to it. If you can get Kanamycin buy some, never hurts to have it on hand.

So this Seachem Kanaplex powder is it... now can i give it during the same time as the metro powder?
sorry seen cross that bridge after i was caught up in the find kana....lol but i guess i still will need to know if they can be mixed....

Yes they can be used in combination with no contradiction. Normal dosing levels.

Ok Thanks alot for helping really appreciate it, now for the waiting game... "if he makes it my friend owes me big time".... I want his upside down catfish!!!!LOL
