Hi all! Relatively new to the forums. Read a lot but I don't post. But it's kind of an emergency this time!

I recently went through a fumigation (full tent) I have a 220g and I wrapped my tank. Luckily, al the fish survived. I have a colony of 12 frontosas starry nights and a a few more random cichlids I got from a breeder. I used to have close to 30 fish.

Unfortunately when setting back up the sump (sump was taken out during the fumigation) I realized I lost most, if not all my beneficial bacteria (stored in buckets outside the tent) and my tank was crashing fast. I lost seven 5-6 inch frontosas in the first few days. Lost my Giraffe hap and then went 3 days without any fish loss. I was testing water every day. Dosed due to a ammonia and nitrite spike (this was quickly resolved). And then I lost one of my Rostratus.

Last parameters were,
Ph - 8.0
Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrite - 0.25ppm
Nitate - 80ppm

I took water tests everything is back to normal minus a slight nitrite elevation.

Now one of my large Frontosa 8-9 inches has been swimming at the top of the tank, Sometimes vertical (nose down), breathing heavy and fin rot. I have been working on the tank perimeters daily to stabilize as best as I can and I'm tired of throwing away dead fish. Please help. Thank you!!!

Dose seachem prime to the tank every 2 days and cont with water changes till corrected. Wait it out and give the fish some time to recover. Still a possibility that you may lose the fish.

Depends what's wrong, so it doesn't fix everything, of course, but over the years I've sometimes saved a fish in trouble with meth blue, whether dips, in the tank, or both. Also, it's been used to treat certain types of poisoning, including ammonia and nitrite poisoning. These days people seem to have forgotten about meth blue, except maybe protecting eggs from fungus, but it's actually fairly versatile and I always have some around.

I greatly appreciate the advice. Unfortunately I lossed him! And another 4" frontosa today as well. Something is going on with my tank, but it's only a effecting the Frontosas I'm pretty sure it just needs to finish recycling. Just completed a large water change, vacuumed and re dosed with conditioner. I know I am going to lose more fish as another frontosa is breathing heavy! Thank you again! I'll be crying now!

I have never heard of meth blue. I will do some research on it and keep some on hand for the future. I pray this never happens again! Thank you for the response!
