Not sure if this should go in general discussion or health sickness...

I picked up an iridescent catfish (i guess you can say rescued) at a lfs today. It's about 7", broken left fin, rubbed off nose, scratched up, and was in a 6" x 10" x 6" divided tank. They said a customer traded it in at least 2 weeks ago, and got beaten up by the store's arowana. I asked about it and they gave it to me for $5 cuz no one wanted it.

Anyways, I've placed it in a small 15g quarantine tank for now before I put it in my larger tank. I'm wondering what kind of precautions I should take to make sure it doesn't have diseases blahbalbbh, symptoms to monitor, and how long should I quarantine it?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Just add some salt and watch him. They don't like small tanks and become skittish hence the nose. They do best in groups of 2 or more while small. They get very large so hopefully your big tank is BIG. Good luck with him.

Salt is perfect for any type of problem you will have with that fish. Raise the temp a few degrees and add a bit of salt according to your tank size. They hate small tanks. That will do him more harm then good. He will heal in a small amount of time. One of mine had a huge rip in his tail. It looked like part of it would fall off. They heal nicely. These fish also stop eating when stressed. This is normal. One of mine went for almost a year when he was moved to his pond. I do disagree with the more than one fish when little. I never had more than one. They get big quickly in some cases. Good Luck with your new ID.
