My 3 inch Jurupari is currently sick and all the signs are pointing to internal parasites.

I think it started when he started getting bullied by one of his tank mates and he started just sitting in the corner of the tank trying to stay out of the way of the aggressor. I finally removed the aggressor and he started to swim the tank more freely but wasn't quite himself. He then started hiding under some wood for a few days and stopped eating. he has now perked up quite a bit, looking for food and sifting but when I feed him, he just spits the food out! Over the last few days I have noticed he has transparent stingy poo and he is starting to look a little 'empty'.

The tank parameters are fine, temp is maintained at 26.5 degrees. I am carrying out weekly water changes of 30-40%. The other fish seem fine.

Any suggestions on what this could be? If so what is the best way to treat?

If it is parasitic, and it sure sounds like it..........It's very likely contagious. Get some METRODONIZOLE in the tank. I think it's hard to find in England, but search for it's counterpart and start dosing. Make sure that the water and gravel are C L E A N .

I have done a quick search and you are right METRODONIZOLE is very difficult to get over here. What other meds would work or at least help the situation?

Anyone?

My young sajica now seems even worse than the jurupari. He is not eating, gasping and hovering near the top of the tank. He clearly has white stringy poo hanging out of him and in a very bad way.

I have used salt and keeping the water clean but no improvements yet so I think meds are needed but I cannot get hold of the meds mentioned above and need names of any others that may help..

Epsom salt dip could help flush him out. Metro and Prazi for internal and external parasites
