I am a beginner for raising koi but have had freshwater tropical fish for years. This morning my platinum ogon koi died of what i believe to be from the costia parasite and my other is showing the same signs. If there is anyone out there that has information to help heal or prevent this from happening i would greatly appreciate it. Could also use any helpful info as well. ty

Costia is the second worst thing you koi can get. It is normally a sign of poor water conditions.

Treatments:

I'm not going to give you doses if this is your first time.

Potassium permanganate,

Malachite green and formalin.

Take a scrape from a few different fish down to your local koi dealer and get them to give you the correct doses. If you've got costia there is a fair chance you'll have something else, childonella or tichodina, so treatments will vary depending on what you've got.

To take a scape get a microscope slide and gently but firm enough slide it along the fish towards the tail just to get a bit of mucus on the slide.

Good luck with the rest of the fish.

Sorry for your loss, the platinum koi are awesome! I have one!

From my experience (I also have some Japanese strain nishiki-goi), once they are sick, it can be hard to cure them. One of my remedies is Potassium Permanganate (PP). I picked up this trick from a fellow koi keeper (this koi keeper also treats Kenny G's koi, the sax player).

Here's a good site explaining dosage and uses of PP.

Can buy at Lowes labeled at Pool Filter Cleaner.

Good luck and keep us updated! :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2
