Hi all, my ornate has developed some strange symptoms and was after a bit of help. Its 10'' and is in a 100ltr/30 gal growout tank atm.Over the last couple of days its started to shed a bit of slime, lost its appetite and has developed a hole in its right gill plate.Every now and then it looks like its trying to cough something up.It also seems to be relying on its front fins more to do its swimming.Previously I tried to put it in my 8ft tank but my 20'' aro had a go at it so I removed it straight away. Its developed these symptoms since ive put it back in the qt tank.It was in the 8ft tank for about an hour.I started to treat it yesterday with Metronidazole and it seems to of improved slightly. If anyone has any ideas whats wrong with her i'd be much appreciated on your comments. Thanks MFK crew

mine always walks on its front fins, but the slime sounds like ich or its got a problem with its slime coat, either way it means its stressed so you either need a bigger tank, need to change the tankmates its with, or need to change the water

Is there anything else in there with it,pleco?
Put half a salt dose in and up the temp a bit,and if its been in that small tank before then you need a bigger growout tank.

check ph/amonia/nitrite ... large amount can affect bichirs slim coat ... Metronidazole won't help .. it's getting better likely bc it's in qt ...

It seems to be holding alot of air in its belly.she was just floating and i couldnt lower her down, then now shes sitting on the floor again. Is this a case of bloat? What are the symptoms of bloat? Every so often she blows bubbles out of her gills which seems to keep her on the floor.
