We have an adult Tangerine Peacock I noticed hanging out in the corner at the surface this morning, not eating as well. After closer inspection, I see what appears to be some kind of fungus? on its gill plates. It looks like white pealing skin. I moved to a 5.5 quarantine tank and treated with Melafix. My questions are, what is it and what treatments are necessary to heal it. And is it contagious? I carefully inspected all tank mates finding no signs. Also, I highly doubt it was caused by another fish, its a pretty low aggression tank.

Thanks!

Leave the lights off, maybe give him an hour of light each day. Use Mela and some salt (1TBS) and temp. near 83. Should heal up. If not, might have to look into medications.
