i have this very nice 3.5 female ruby red peacock for about a week now. It came from Thailand and i dont know because she has been weak lately and not swimming as much. she floats as she swims, havent been eating ever since i put her in the tank with 4 2.5 geo. red heads and a female red parrot. cost me about 100 for it. there hasnt been any fights and she wouldnt want to eat. i ask the guy who sold it to me and he said that she eats tetra bites and brime shrimps so i went off and got some and for about 4 days later fed them it and she still wouldnt want to eat. Does any one know the cause of this or is she still trying to get used to her soundings or something. i really need help on trying to get her to at least eat or something cuz she is starting to thin out alittle!!!!!!!

IMO, I'd quarantine that fish regardless of the sources. Can you put her in a 10g? Operate it with only a heater and sponge filter. If she does not eat (and I was kinda hoping it would), a good approach is to treat her with metronidazole instead by dosing it into the water, not as effective as ingestion would have. How does its poop look if you've observed it pooping? Try adding garlic on the foods you are giving her. Let me know the poop appearance so I can immediately recommend another med if it may seem something seriously wrong.

the poop doesnt look any different at all compared to the others...darker because my geos eats like crazy on the brime shrimp and NLS. i looks so nice so i probably need to get a 10 g tank then cuz my other quarantrine is being used by my jardini from the transfer from my cuzins house to my house so yeah i probably have to do it tomorrow afternoon

Hmmm...I'd just quarantine her for now and keep a close watch. Add garlic to entice her to eat and use metronidazole for possible internal parasites.

Metro is available as Flagyl in pharmacies. There's also a liquid form but you want it to ingest it so tablets are your best bet. If you do not have much time with garlic cloves, buy Kent's liquid garlic from petstores or online sites and add a few drops to the foods. 3-4 drops will usually suffice as too much is overpowering and can confuse the fish.

wat does the garlic do? promotes and help the fish to eat? never really understand the whole garlic thingy. do petsmart have these stuff?

Give Petsmart a shot if they have it. Garlic entices the fish to eat and it can act as an irritant on some internal parasites thus they are likely pushed out of the gastrointestinal tract and let the meds work on them much more effectively.

thank you! just need to do this as fast as possible this female is my breeder female for my uncle's ruby's for christmas and i want it to be fat and healthy as possible sothere wont be any problems when he gets it but thansk and ill keep u updated on things.
