Ok I'm re-posting this here I forgot there was a forum for sick fish. Then I read the posting suggestions so there is a ton of added info.

The day before yesterday I looked in my tank and I instantly knew something was wrong with my pleco. He just looked off, I looked him over and there seems to be a growth protruding from his abdonmen very small couple mm in the shape of a raised mole. Could this be a parasite? I tried to get a pic, but I do not want to stress him out and as of last nite he no longer stays attached to the walls or clings upside down.

He is housed in a 72g that is filtered by a fuval 405, a fluval 3plus and a emperor 400 it also has a water pump (can't remember the brand I have in that tank). The tank is used as a divider btwn my sun-room and my living room, so lots of sunlight no artifical lighting. His tank mates are a tire track eel, and a leopard leaf fish. He has been housed in the tank for 7 or 8 mons. I've had him since he was maybe 2 or 3" he is currently around the 1' mark. He eats lots of algae, then I provide him with zuccini, peas, spinach, algea waffers, blood worms. He's only about eight years old, I will be crushed to loose him.

Another side thought is that I always wondered why he never got bigger at eight years he's only 1' is it possible that he's had some type of internal parasite for years which has sunted his growth?

-I just got back from the fish store and I picked up prazi pro. I'm going to separate him to a rubbermaid to treat him. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Possibly... He could be constipated too. Seems like things are declining fast.
Keep a very close eye on him.. You need to get him better quick.

took him out of quarantine. He's eating active like normal, but he still has that thing.

got a pic of what I'm talking about.

Anyone know what that is?
genitalia?

or perhaps he swallow something solid thats stuck in his intestines

fun fact: theres a superstition if you talk about your pleco online and spell it out "pleco", it will get sick and die. thats why you see some post that have pl*co in them.

really? I will quite sheepish if genitalia is the case.
How could I have not noticed the cash and prizes for 8 years? and I can't think of anything he could have eaten to have it protrude like that.

anyone seen this, am I freaking out over nothing? Thanks

I think he swallowed something and it was too large to pass through the intestines near the anus.
You could try feeding him something high in fiber, maybe it'll shake things loose.

If you're talking about the #1 arrow, it's genitalia (& I'm with you-how'd you miss it? lol) If you're talking about the #2 arrow-I don't know, just looks like a faded area of his stomach. Looks normal.
I know people freak out and show pictures of 3' common Plecs when someone tells them they just got one. But the large majority of them get and stay around 12" in length. I'd say yours is normal in size. He's also a beautiful common with great color contrast and literally perfect fins. He's well taken care of :-) Seriously-well cared for commons like yours make me want to get one.

two for genitalia. good to know, that my "boy" is all good. The second arrow is just from the flash hitting the glass. I feel better now. Thats for the responses.

I just looked up pictures, felt a little funny googling pleco junk, but it was reassurring

Don't know why he was acting all funny the other day, maybe some cross words were exchanged in the tank.

Thanks again everyone
