My common pleco is sick, but I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with it. It's about three years old and 7 inches long. I normally feed it algae wafers twice a day, and zucchini/cucumber every few days.
Two days ago, it started spending most of its time in the middle of the tank, swimming against the current in the same spot. I have never seen it do this before. When it isn't swimming, it keeps its fins clamped, and I can notice it twitching slightly every few seconds.
Nothing looks physically wrong. It has, however, been pooping long, clear strands of what looks like mucous. Does this mean it's internal parasites? Or is it just pooping like that because it hasn't been eating? There aren't any eggs in the poop, as far as I can tell.
I did have a massive platy die-off a few weeks ago -- they all went within a day or two of each other. No symptoms up until they were within a couple of hours of dying.
Anyhow, here's my tank info.
Size: 75g
Temp: 78F
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrites: 0ppm
Nitrates: 15ppm
pH: 6.8
Other fish: 10 neon tetras, 6 rummy noses, 5 kuhli loaches, and 3 apistos
Filters: Rena Filstar XP4, Emperor 400
15% water change weekly.
All of the other fish (besides the dead platies, obviously) are healthy and eating/pooping normally.
Do any of you have any ideas/suggestions as to what's wrong?
Thanks!
