I have a Green Spotted Puffer that has started to have a black belly a lot of the time. I converted him over from FW to SWa month or two ago, because of this problem in the FW. He was fine for a while and then started to get the black. Some time his who body will look darker, also. It has been eating a little less but is still eating. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

It's really normal for them to have a black belly sometimes. Mine would turn almost totally black when they were sleeping. Also one of them would would get a black belly when feeding. It really depends on the personality of the puffer. If it's really moody it can change constantly to a dark belly. Other reasons: Stress, water param., illness, scared or just sleepy.

Please post his water parameters, tank size, tankmates & anything else you can think of.

the salinity is around 1.020. the ammonia and nitrate are at 0 there is a small amount of nitrite. He is in a 30 gallon hex with a snowflake eel, who doesn't mess with him. i hear sometimes they come in to the store with an internal parasite or infection, do you think that may be the case?

Are you sure you have the nitrite & nitrate correct or did you mix them up? If you have some nitrite & no nitrate, your tank is not cycled. Also, snowflakes get about as long as your arm 8 as thick as your wrist. Minimum tank size for an adult GSP is 30g & that's without tank mates. Both those fish put out a ton of waste.

How did you acclimate the puffer from FW-SW? How big is the puffer? What foods are you feeding it?

I did a drip system over a couple of days(via your advise i believe). It is about 4-5 in and eats mostly krill

Please look in the alibrary of my forum for a more varied diet for your puffer. What about my other Qs?
