I just picked up a baby gold severum a couple weeks ago (only about 1 in. long) from the LFS and I noticed over the past week that it kind of looks "dirty" on one side. The best way I could describe it is that he kinda looks dusty on the side and a couple spots on the fins. Sounds stupid but that's the best comparison I could make. I don't believe that this was there when I picked him up and if it was, it wasn't as noticeable. I checked the water parameters, and they are all good. I wasn't sure if this was its natural coloring or maybe something else since he is a more pale gold. Has anyone seen what I'm talking about or possibly know what could be causing it? I'll try to get a picture up but my camera hasn't been working lately so we'll see. Thanks.

Keep the temp at 85 to 86 add 1 teaspoon per gallon of aquarium salt, keep the water clean, and feed sparingly.....

Its called ick, its about the most common aquarium fish disease you can get, not really a big deal unless you don't treat it. 82-86* should work, add salt, do a 50% water change and don't feed so much. Just like spizz said.

"Ich".....

The 2 severum I bought also developed ich quickly and the lfs has some new yellow severum that have ich. He said that they get it very easily when stressed (transported). Follow the excellent advice above.

Every severum I get from Petsmart has developed ich when I put them in my tanks. they get it REAL bad too...Don't give up...When they heal, they will reward you with true beauty :)

This dirty look, is it a greyish/blackish colour? Or are there white spots?

Doesn't sound like ich to me. I have a gold sev. that had some of this greyish "dirt" on its side and it never affected the fish at all. Most of it went away on its own, but there is still a mark there for over 6 months now. My fish still swims, eats, acts totally normal.

Burt :)
