do you think an aquaclear 110 ( 70-110gp) is to much for my 20 gallon sick tank?

I have a 6" datnoid in there.
He has 2 red sores on each side of his tail fin, and a white scrape behind his gil. also his eye is turning white on the top.
So I put him in a 20gallon tank, added melifax, and stress coat. Going to pick up some aquarium salt tomorrow. is there anything else I should do for him?

Leave the light off?

It sounds like your fish has Septicemia, a bacterial infection. Pimafix and Melafix will do nothing but kill your fish. Go to a Petsmart and get some Life Guard. It is really good stuff but kind of expensive. I have tried other medications but with very little success. Jungle meds are inexpensive but nearly worthless. Maracyn and Maracyn-Two are both good. When using Maracyn and Maracyn-Two, also use Copper Safe. It is five dollars per bottle and one treatment lasts a month. It is good insurance against secondary parasitic infections and will treat any parasites you may have missed. The Septicemia may be a secondary infection as a result of a parasitic infestation.

p.s. there are two Petsmarts close to you. One is on 434 in Forest City by the Sports Authority and the other is on 17-92 in Casselberry across from the city hall.

If you know where any good fishing spot near orlando is, for Pbass, jags snakheads etc.. Please pm me ( I would love to catch a new type of sports fish )

pbass are only in Broward, Dade, and Everglade counties. Most everything that can be had in the Orlando area can be caught in the St. Johns River. Freshwater Atlantic Stingrays are legal in Florida; they don't belong to the genus of rays that are banned. They are breading in the St. Johns (that is the kind that I had). The state record for clown knives is from the St. Johns. The fish was taken between the Lake Monroe powerplant and Blue Springs. My stingray came from the mouth of Blue Springs.

The filter is fine for that size fish.

CHOMPERS said the rest.

Keep us posted,

Dr Joe

r.i.p 6" wide bar datnoid.
He was always smaller than the rest and unstable almost like the runt. But he was my 1 fish me and my mom were attatched to.

she came in my room 5 mins ago and told me that ozzy ( what she named him ) was dead.

( I go to the petsmart near sports authority all the time , I'm getting a job there )

Its ok, He was a good lil fish though.

Yesterday I noticed him floating near the top of the tank in my 120gallon. I went to check on him and noticed all the damage done to him, so i figured he wouldent make it. I tried my best though, to bad petsmart was closed :(

I keep a mini-pharmacy on hand. Still there is a lot of guess work involved. There are over a dozen different type of meds that will treat bacteria and fungal infections but picking the right one is a roll of the dice. If you wait too long, nothing will save the fish. If you pick the wrong medication, at least it is helping the fish. It will usually buy you a little more time to try another one.
