Not quite sure what to do with my green terror. He basically stopped eating in January and was passing white/clear stringing waste. I went through a variety of parasite treatments (prazipro, general cure, levamisole) and have not been able to identify any parasites under a scope. At what point would you consider putting down a fish that just seems like it’s sort of wasting away? He’s had very little growth since this started and is looking rather thin and a bit unhealthy overall. He probably eats about 1 hikari cichlid gold mini pellet at each feeding at most. I’m starting to think it’s time to let him go, but don’t want to give up on him if there is a chance to rebound. Anyone ever have a situation like this?

Check out my thread about my GT.

I have been having issues with my gt since pretty much the beginning. He has always had some random days of clear poops.

My guy has always kept his appetite though, not losing weight, but did produce a hole in his tiny. Small but it's there.

Since I am still working towards finding out what's going on with my fish I don't what to suggest.

For now post up as much details as you can regarding the setup and your fish.

Water change schedule, what's the diet like, tank temp, water parameters, tank mates, age of fish, pictures of fish and setup, tank temp, ect.

Does your fish have any hole in the head or bigger than normal pits?

My fish actually had capillaria which levamisole did take care of but still has other issues.

If it’s still feeding then that’s a good sign. Would make sure food is soaked in vitachem.

Would suggest trying a 3%epsom salt solution and mix separate metronidazole and a gel food base (seachem focus alrernative). Feed it to the fish. As well as adding Epsom salt to the tank 1 tbsp per 5g.

If not better then consider a vet. Best of luck.

Just to update...

Somewhat inexplicably, my Green Terror has begun to eat again, after doing almost nothing in terms of eating since January. Now I wonder, is he going to be permanently stunted? I'm sure the not eating for roughly 3 months has done some damage. I'd love to see him start putting on some size again. Or is he doomed to be a runt? Today is the first time in months his belly isn't shrunken in, and his fins are unclamped. He is probably 3 1/2 inches long and rather thin, at 6 months I'd expect much more out of him.

It's exciting and I'm happy he is seemingly recovering but at the same time I want a beautiful specimen in my show tank and not a weak drab colored fish. I'll give him some time but if he can't bounce back to his former proud self I may just move him to a spare 29 gallon so he can be the king of his castle.

Not sure if it’s a runt but getting it back to eat is a great sign. Glad to find out!
