Since this morning I have observed my oscar resting on the bottom, barely moving at all. He is turning a wierd green color and he is now hiding behind a rock leaning to one side on the bottom.:(

I used my API test strips to test my water and everything is fine. The Nitrates are somewhere between 0-20 and the nitrite is 0 and ph is 6.5-7.
The jack dempsey is fine and for the most part she is stayin by his side.

I fed them alot of blood worms and cichlid gold last night for thanksgiving so could maybe have eaten too much and that is all?

I need help and advice ASAP! If I loose this fish it will be like losing my one and only child!!

:nilly:

There is never any harm in doing a water change. If there is something odd in the water a water change will help, if there isn't... it won't hurt.

sweet yea i just did a 15% change and hes swimming around like normal now. wierd. I also added some salt so I dunno we'll see how it goes..

Never do "thanksgiving" feedings or "spring" cleanings, it is just too fast for them. Too much food can lead to constipation and lethargy and spring cleanings can lead to unbalanced water qualities. Hope he's alright

Oscars can often "pout" at the bottom of the tank when something is changed in their tank. There is nothing wrong with them when they do they are simply mad about a change. My Oscars had a nice leafy plant in their tank for a while and I got tired of cleaning up the leaves that would fall off of it. So I removed the plant form their tank. They pouted for 4 days until i returned it to their tank.

While a w/c can never hurt, if the parameters are fine and now abrasions or odd growths appear I'd typically attribute this behavior to pouting.

did it turn out 100% fine now a few days later? oscars tend to be moody like that from even minor changes sometimes

yeah my new tiger kind of has been floating near the bottom and recently started hanging out behind the filter, each day that passes he moves around more and more, just stick it out, itll be ok im sure

Yes he is tottaly fine now! It was the oddest thing ever I swear, and I've owned this fish for over 8 years. haha.

My room mates were all gone for thanksgiving so maybe he was upset about them leaving..

Funny...I brought him back to PetsMart about 2 days ago, he just WASNT having it in my tank...turns out it wasnt my tank! I went back yesterday to look at the Oscar selection and turns out they all had these little white dots all over them! All of them had ick! I was like wtf lol My fish are still 100% so im pumped

I would still be on the lookout in your tank in case the oscar was carrying parasites on it without visible symptoms
