That really is terrible! I can't imagine those fins even being edible after those flies. What a waste. I know some cultures fancy these types of food, but really maybe cultures need some reworking, this isn't 100 years ago where food like this was abundant.

Well the problem is that those cultures haven't changed, the modern, "civilized" world has thrown off the balance.

That is the worst mose disgusting thing i have ever seen i think all the people that do that sould be put in the open sea with a great white coverd in bate see if they can get the fins off them eh!!!

shark finning will never stop. Not as long as China has a demand for it. At least we can be glad its illegal in US waters.
not that it helps a whole lot.

There's been a few threads like this..... they are all locked in the end because even on this site, there are people who see nothing wrong with it and eat shark fin soup

Its actually ironic how wrong you are. In fact its the complete opposite. Its actually the "modernization" of these cultures you speak of that causes this great demand.

But again...blah blah blah shark finning is bad blah blah blah...freaking cry me a river. The fisherman had a permit. The author of this article was so self absorbed in himself and his cause that he falsely assumed that this fisherman is paying "just ten cents a shark." $30 is alot of money when you are out in the middle of no where trying to support your family. He was doing it legally in locations alotted for fishing. The animals populations were just fine in areas designated off limits for fishing.

If you want to stop it, how about pay the fisherman money so he doesnt have to fish to support his family?

i dont have a problem with killing sharks,

IF you use the entire animal
and IF you do it legally.

Its the cutting off of the fins and throwing back the animal alive back into the water to die slowly part
and the killing of millions of them this way every year part
and the doing it for people to have soup part I hate

This is actually the first I've ever heard of it. I guess I must be living under a rock :screwy: I didn't know it was such a hot subject.

I do agree though that if the sharks are going to be killed, they should at least put the rest of the animal to use.

The bottom line here is that in a short period of time there will be no more sharks because of a damn bowl of soup. How sad.
