Any tips on keeping a moss ball healthy? Mine is turning an olive green color. I think it is dying. :( It gets natural light from a window.

?????
water temp
tank size
stock list
water change schedule
lighting other than window

???/??

It's a marimo ball. It is in a small 1.5 gal QT set up by itself and I put a little excel and flourish in the water. It is at ambient temp; room is kept in mid 70s. I change the water infrequently. I didn't think it needed a lot of light or heat, as they are originally from a lake (???)

As you can tell, I'm really new to aquatic plants... and I know I have a lot to learn. This was an impulse buy, but I would like to keep it alive. :)

Thanks!

Sounds like a light issue to me.

They do well in mid 70 degree temps and the ferts you gave are good as well.

Do you have a filter system at all on the tank? Plants need some kind of flow in the tank to move new nutrient rich water around them.

I was thinking it might be the lack of circulation. There is no filter or anything. I was thinking of putting in a small air stone, but frankly, I was afraid my bf would see it and it would confirm my insanity in his mind. (The whole fish thing is beyond his comprehension...)

BTW, your signature is hilarious! But I like my ACs???

its not the light. marimo ball is a algae. excel has a algaecide in it. stop adding the excel for that matter you dont really need to add the flourish. i would just dump some old tank water in it every week or so.

Eek! Algaecide?!?!?!? I had no idea. :( :( :(

I'll do a water change once I get home. My poor little marimo ball...

try to get a small filter, it would help a lot

I find this thread amusing especially since it is all about one small moss ball I can kind of picture a sad moss sitting in a fish tank. good luck with your moss ball tho I am going to get one I think they are kinda cute.
