So (see previous thread) I'm planning an aquarium 72x30x36. I want a sump filter with filter socks, but I don't want the aquarium to be too high off the ground, which would mean I'd be using very small filter socks. In my experience if you have a 4"x7" filter sock it clogs...like daily. So what about using an external overflow (ie doesn't go out the bottom, goes out the back) into a side cabinet with tall filter socks? From there it would go into a sump with bio media and then back to the aquarium. Anyone have a set up like this? Thoughts? Pictures of yours??

Initially it'll be for my fancy goldfish, so they are super messy.

I'm awful at CAD or any sort but I made an attempt with Sketchup, hopefully it's at least good enough to display what I'm talking about.

I run this 135/75 with a side mounted overflow plumbed Beananimal style. The overflow is a Ghost by Reef Savvy. I use a 7x14 100 micron and occasionally put a 25 or 50 on it.

Build is in my sig I believe....
