My tank has only been set up for three days (no fish yet) and I've already messed something up, I think. I bought a piece of mopani wood for the tank and boiled it, then let it sit in water. Now my tank water has a weird tea-color to it. How is this going to effect my cycling? How do I get rid of the color?
Sigh, day three and I've already run into an issue...

You didn't soak the wood long enough. Carbon should help get rid of it... maybe a water Chang also.

That's what happens with mopani. It leeches tanis into the water. To get rid of it do waterchanges and let it leech. I have a bunch in my 90 and some recently added pieces and my water is still tea colored after 3 weeks. It just takes time. No idea how it will effect the cycles although I think it would be beneficial for it.

Everything is fine. That's what mopani wood does. If you don't like the color of the water, do a water change or add some activated carbon.

It wont effect the cycle. As mentioned to get rid of the color use carbon and/ or water changes. As it releases tannins it will slightly lower the PH though.
