I picked up 2 senegal bichirs on may 23rd. I decided to measure them the day i got them they were roughly 4.25-4.5". I decided to measure again today and they were 5-5.25"! They're in a 10g and get 50% water change every other day. Has anyone else expierenced this? It totally caught me off gaurd because i have been trying to grow them out to add to my oscar's tank. I thought that bichirs were slow growers. Here are some updated pics of the bichirs and their future tank mate. :D

when i had on i thought mine would grow a inch every 2 months or so. they probably grow faster as juveniles, after all the faster you grow the less chance you have of being eaten.

My sens had explosive growth. I got them at 3-3.5" and within weeks they were 5".

Fast growers sens are. I think lower jaw species grow far more slow.

Yeah, that is what i am sort of experiencing. Hopefully in a few more weeks I can introduce them to my oscar. :D I'm actually going to come up with names for them. Only 2 other fish I have had been worthy of that title.

nope depends toally on the individual fish. Many senegals go thru a huge growth spurt till they reach 7-8 inches then growth slows. Some never seem to hit a fast growth stage for some reason. As for upper jaw vs.lower jaw I have seen ebdis hit 18 inches in the first year-Anne

Thanks, hopefully i can expect this growth spurt to continue.

Yeah my sens have been growing like weeds (except for my long finned albino :( ), but the rest of my poly's have not grown quite as fast. Oscars are fast growers too though... and they have VERY wide mouths... I'd be careful for the senegal's sake if you're gonna put them together.
