I have red plants in my tank and need to know what some of the signs are that they are not getting enough nutrients

Greenish nerves and yellowing of the older leaves is some of the first issues when seeing Iron issues. What are the issues your having? You have any pics I could see?

I think a little more info might help as well. What lights are you running? How much light? What plants specifically are you having issues with? Are you dosing any type of ferts and nutrients right now? If so what?

red plants need very high light and iron in order to get them red.

This for all the most part true... BUT There are some red plants that can do good in Medium light to upper low light. Problem is for the OP without knowing what he is doing for nutrients, lighting or anything and without seeing the plant with issues its hard to nail down if its a light issue or nutrient issue.

judging by what you are saying, i dont think i have any problems with my plants. i was just curious as to what to look for in the future. for lights i a running a T5 HO with 2 54w bulbs. the light cycle is give or take 12 on 12 off. i am dosing an organic carbon supplement and comprehensive supplelment, both made by Seachem. i have an iron supplement that i use sometimes but it raises the iron levels in the tank by .5ppm per 1 oz. does so i use it sparingly.

here is a picture of the plant in question, i forget the name.
