i have half my tank crushed coral and the other half is white play sand that contains silica .... i didn't realize this until reading here that silica is bad for rays ...my ray seems fine and burries under the sand but should i still remove it ? what does the silica do ?

from what i hear. silica is glass? and it can kinda cut the belly. ive seen some rays on silica sand and they have little red bellys. thats what ive heard

You might want to get ride of the crushed coral too. It is used to help buffer and raise pH in marine tanks.

i know about the crushed coral but i had it in there when i was SW . My water parameters are good but i think i might go with an all sand bottom . I just need to find a different kind of sand . I didn't even realize this stuff had silica until i read on here and saw it was bad so i went and checked the bag of sand and sure enough . i'll make a trip to homedepot today and see if they have any white non-silica sand
