we ran into a snafoo w/ our new sump tonight.. and the only thing we have to fix the leak is silicone so we used it.. now I'm wondering how long until its "set" to use? I know when we used it to build our other sump and used it to secure actual walls ect we went with the full cure time.. but we used it to essentially cement a gasket to the return flow, and it's purely for leak control. and we can't turn the filter back on until its cured :WHOA::WHOA::WHOA: so I need it back in action asap.. so can I start it up in an hour or two? or should I pull the pump and just let it go over-night keeping the water circulated w/ a pre-sponge? btw we used it to "glue" a threaded gasket to a rubbermaid. darn thing was leaking around the outter gasket rim.:irked:

It's been about 4 hours now since we siliconed it.. the fish seem fine atm.. just did a 50% wc today as well so I think... i'mna ere on the side of caution and wait until after we catch some Zzz's and hook it up in the AM. instead of waiting a full 24 hours, or just the 4 so far.

I'm in the same boat as you. I found out a bulkhead started leaking (seal was crappy) and need to patch it up again. It was only leaking about a cup(250mil) a day so not a bad leak, just want it fixed.
I will have to turn off main filter for a few hours and hope the silicone dries enough to stop the leak.

Edit. One thing to remember (for anyone else doing this) is the BB in the sump will die if it is off for a while (no circulation)
My wet/dry has two internal eheim pumps that circulate the water back over the bio balls so I should be fine for a few hours without killing the BB, without circulating the water back to the tank.

I fired it back up and replaced the media( good point and if you notice in the pic pot scrubbies are floating around the pool lol.) seems to be fine... did dose abit of water conditioner just to ere on the side of caution.

we also used the white plumbers threading tape stuff on a few joints. love the stuff.
