I bought a 3D background recently and siliconed it to the back of my tank (10 gallon) how long should i wait before putting water inside ? I cant even test by smelling due to having a cold at them moment.

Most brands require 24 hrs dry time and 7 days to fully cure. I always wait 7 days before filling my tanks just to be on the safe side.

I would check the label on the tube of silicone you used. You should be able to find it there. I would personally take their cure time and double it...but I like to err on the side of safety when it comes to stuff like that. I'm sure you'd be fine with whatever the manufacturer recommends.

I waited almost 2 weeks for my silicone to cure... although it said fully cured in 1 week...

I think i will wait 7 days as the silicone is GE1 and as we all know they dont recommend it being in aquariums.

Rumor has it that's because some guy used it for sealing a monster tank and the seams split... It's really not designed to hold that much pressure like on 1000 gallon tank seams. I've used it for all my 3D background installs and it works fine. I would wait at least 3-4 days, freshly depends on how much silicone you used. A week wouldn't hurt. :)

As long as its not like anti mold just straight silicone although my buddy used it he waited a week it seemed to want to flake of it was weird so we striped it down and I helped him redo it with aquarium grade. And also silicone will never bond to silicone so he didn't clean that well and it seemed to pull right out so steel wool and blades a must with some acitone
