Silicone dry time

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All of the silicone I have used says to let it cure for 24 hours if I recall correctly. It will feel try to the touch after a couple hours, but will still be spongey if you push on it. It takes almost a whole day to dry to where it is solid inside and out. Of course how thick it is and the outside temp and things will also affect this, but IME 24 hours is usually more than enough. I'm not familiar with GE silicone 1, I figure you already checked this out, but it doesnt have any additives does it? I figure it probably is non-toxic but like I said I'm not familiar with it

I resealed my tank and waited 72hrs for the silicone to cure. On the other hand, I used the exact same silicone to make a rock cave and waited only 24hrs before I put it in the tank. Everything was fine.

With silicone I (only thing I use) I usually give it 24 hours to dry, then I set in in a bucket of tank water for another 24.

I hadnt thought about leeching it in a bucket before putting it in the tank, I usually just give it a quick rinse of tank water. Its worked for me so far but it never hurts to be safe

Idk about you guys but my silicone says 72 hours on the label. Mine still like jello at 24. And it says aquarium safe too. But I think it depends on the silicone.
