Hi guys,

I was messing about with a small tank recently, trying to remove what seemed like excess silicone coming out from the corners, that I felt was unsightly.

As seen in the before and after pics below, I took a Stanley blade and carefully cut away "the excess", but am not slightly worried about the tanks stability.

It's a braceless tank, therefore relies on the silicone seal at the corners to be strong; do you think I'll have comprised the seal?

It's actually a very small tank to be honest, 12 litres; so I'm imagining the stresses shouldn't be too much, but even still I'd rather play safe

The silicone between the glass is what holds the tank together, the silicone pushed into the corners is there to protect the silicone between the glass. There is no structural support provided by the silicone in the corners, nor does it seal the tank like so many believe. So as long as you didn't nick the silicone between glass while you were cutting you'll be fine, though you will need to be careful cleaning it in the future.
