Hello all!
New poster here.
I am about to place a decent size piece of driftwood into my 55 gallon aquarium and decided to weight it down by gluing some rocks to the bottom of it. So, I went to good old Home Depot and grab a tube of silicone sealant. I double and triple checked that it was 100% silicone sealant that had no anti-fungals or other chemicals in it. I then proceeded to attach two large rocks to the bottom of the driftwood and decided to read the curing instructions, which said "Not to be placed below the water line of an aquarium or pond."
I bought GE Silicone I clear.
Well, it's going to be impossible to clean all this stuff off, so I have some questions:
1. Can I really NOT use this stuff? Is GE just trying to sell me some more expensive silicone sealant that I may not need?
2. Once it dries and cures, might I be able to seal the sealant inside to present it from leeching anything in the water? Could I cover it in epoxy, perhaps?
The tank is going to have freshwater community fish in it that can co-exist with freshwater angelfish. At some point it may get African Cihclids, but that's way down the road, if I ever decided to break it down and start over.
