#2 will harm your fish.
#1 is 100% silicone with nothing added to it. So when it dries, it becomes inert.

If you want to use your employee discount, have them order some GE #1 silicone. You can also get them "discounted" at LOWES as they sell them in a package of 4. Under $18 for a package of 4 I believe.

So i could use another brand as long as its 100%

Yes. Aquarium silicone is the same as GE#1 but much more expensive as it is geared towards the aquarium market. From what you said in your original post, you just want to seal a small area, so just go out and get the GE#1. There are other brands but you must be certain it does not have additives such as anti-mildew, etc. as this can/will harm your fish. When unsure you can always look up the Material Safety Data Sheet or MSDS. This tells you exactly what is in the silicone. Again, to play it safe get GE#1 or silicone marketed towards aquarium use. Good luck.

I lost a whole tank due to #2. I grabbed it once didn't pay attention resealed a tank, dropped some fish in moved over the filter media from the working tank; with in 2 days all fish dead.

+1. Ive used the #1 and had no problems with it whatsoever and it is cheaper per unit volume than anything in a lfs that I have seen. Plus if you have a caulk gun you can get the silicone in a compatible canister that makes application easier. I HIGHLY recommend scraping all silicone away from that seam that is leaking and applying a fresh layer since the new silicone tends to not stick to old silicone once it cures. Speaking from experience here

Ya i mean i have aquarium solicon right now that i jus put onn so now i gotta let it dry before i turn the pump back on but i was jw for future reference... Thaks
