Hey people,

I need to try and silicone a damaged joint leading to the sump..

It's a tank with a hole in the bottom, leading to pipework that goes direct to sump.

It's got a slow leak, so I'm trying to re silicone it, problem is, the joint will not come off, think its factory made to stay on...

Will the silicone stick to the old silicone or is this no go?

no go...silicone will not stick to old silicone well enough to seal. if you could post a pic or two we could definitely help better.

If you can clean off as much of the old silicone as possible, then with a shop vacuum put over the other side (plug the hole also), create a vacuum to pull the silicone into the leak. (heating the tube of silicone in hot water before opening and using it will give a better flow).

Replacement is another option.

This isn't an acrylic tank is it?

Ah thanks for the input guys, it's not an acrylic tank.

It's basically just the drain joint under the tank going to sump...

I sealed it on Sunday, put water in last night (Wednesday) all seems to be fine, no leaks...

How long should I leave it to be sure it's not leaking?

If you filled it up and no leaks about all we can forsee is that it's not leaking now :D.

No help huh?

Seriously, if you cleaned the glass properly the silicone should adhere to it, cover the leak and your done.

Give it a week to make you feel good about it. ;)
