I am new to Cichlids and recently bought a severum. he seems to be adjusting well. but he seems to have created a half bowl shaped crater in the back of the tank he is about 2" and the only cichlid in the tank. he has so far ignored the plants (I know some sa/ca cichlids destroy them)

also ant tips for caring for my new fish properly

he is just making it his home... guess he didnt like the original layout. It happens all the time

like ^^^^ said, hes making it his home. Cichlids will make the tank they want, and if you mess it up they will get mad haha, but they just re do it. he is also claiming that area and will defend it too.

i think your severum is marking his terroritory.
some cichlids like to have territory, depends on their level of aggression i guess.

cool that means he's relaxed enough to stake out his spot :)

Half the fun of keeping cichlids is watching them get angry when you level out the substrate again during tank cleanings and redigging their homes :)

yeh, as everyone said he's just adjusting his home to how he wants it, also when you clean your tank you dont have to leave it cause he'll only move it again.

its quite funny actaully my dads RD gets gravel and spits it out all aroung the tank when he's being teased, in a strop and doesnt get his own way
