Quarantine Tank
This is kinda a silly question but do you think that fish like certain routines? Routines like feeding at a certain time, certain ways you do water changes, feeding at a certain spot in the tank? etc.

I was just thinking about how my dogs like certain routines so why not fish? :)

Any thoughts? Comments?

I dont think they "like" routines, but they certainly can fall into one.
I try to keep everything random. They seem more active that way.

I try to stay away from routines. One week I'll feed them shrimp and the next I take them out for tennis lessons.
Seriously though, the other night my wife was feeding the big tank their frozen krill and the moment she lifted the lid our cat jumped in. The timing was just right but talk about a change of routine!

I think they LIKE routines. Most "simple" things do. Think about dogs or even babies, they like a predictable daily pattern. A routine makes them feel safe. My fish seem to do better when in a routine.

I don't mean feeding the same foods everyday or even at the exact same time, but doing things in a predictable order, like lights on, then feeding, lights off, then night feeding. I only clean the tank after a feeding, stuff like that.

Think about how stressed fish get when a random event happens, like the cat in the tank (hee hee!) How stressed would you be if you never knew for certain when you were getting fed or if your light would go out at night.

I think I have fallen into a routine. I feed all my tanks in the same spot, every time.

My tank at the office is the random tank as everyone wants to throw a few balls in.

defenately. i always feed on the same side and at the same time, and start my wcs on the same side. :grinyes:

My bass always expects food at the same spot, but every time I approach the tank.

this is no lie all my fish will come out of there little spots and stare out the front of the tank until they are fed, its creepy, like there plotting agianst me or something

I agree with newtothis....theres a level of comfort that comes with some predictablity, man or fish.

no real routines regarding feeding times or spots but i have managed to keep a steady wc/maintenance schedule.
