I have a 7" Silver Aro and 2-7" Bala Sharks. They have been together for about 2 months now along with a Geo and a cpl Silver Dollars.

In the evening I have noticed that the Aro is hunting the Balas. He comes down from the top of the tank and slowly sneaks up behind one of the Bala's. If he gets close enough, he will open wide and try to clamp onto the back (behind the dorsal) of the fish. The Bala's are so fast that they get away...but there has been contact and you can see some marks on the Bala. (small but they are there).
Question is....do I get rid of the Bala's now? As the Aro grows will he end up killing the Bala's? Aro doesn't pay any attention to any other fish like the SD's which would be way easier to catch.
Why the Bala's

Soo many questions:nilly:

SOONER AND LATER THE ARO WILL GET IN TO THOSE BALA'S. IF IT FITS IT'S MOUTH, IT'S NOT SAFE.

Funny thing is the Aro bothers nobody else. I have two 1.5 inch Irridescent sharks that swim right infront of the Aro....pays no attention...

Maybe the Bala's smell good! LOL

I have mine with a 7-8" L. hoevenii barb (red finned cigar shark). The aro nips at the barm and no one else. I think in the end your aro will grow too fast for your bala's and end up doing real damage/killing them.

Absolutely get them out of there. I kept trying to catch my Roseline shark too fast. I thought I would get him the next day 5 in Jardini tore him up dead.

Any fish that will ever fit into an aros mouth may eventually end up in its stomach. Even if they are fast, aros tend to stay active all night long. He may eat them in their sleep someday. Many people don't know just how capable of a predator their aro is. They have specialized organ systems to enable them to chase down even fast prey without tiring. The idea is the prey suffers exhaustion and gets consumed. Your other fishes only hope would be to duck into cover if they can!

i had a 15" silver with 4" balas never any issues, except when they were 3" and the aro was a little shorter the aro tryed to eat on and spit it out, now that bala at 5" has a twitch...it is crazy it looks like turrets in the fish world... i also have a 10" gar in the same tank...the reason i took the balas out was for my cats not aro...but it all depends on the aro
