I have a 20" silver aro and I recently installed moonlights on my tank so I can see my plecos and catfish during the night. The moonlights are blue LED xmas lights and are fairly dim. My Q is even in the middle of the night, my aro is slowly pacing the tank as usual. Do these guys ever sleep? or am I keeping him awake with the dim blue lights? Or are these guys like dolphins that never stop moving even when they sleep (they shut off half their brain at a time).

Anyone watch their aros during the night? what is their behaviour? I really enjoy watching my tank at night, but would not want to stress my aro. At certain angles he turns metallic blue and it's so sweet.

Cool.. so they pretty much swim all the time like sharks and dolphins.

Anyone else with moonlights/aro experience?

Ya they seem too swim 24/7. I've always had a night/moon type light on my aro tanks. I doesn't seem to stress them and actually with the multiple aros it seems to calm them down.

i agree with the calming effect...i have experimented with a dim light in my fish room...pitch black = my aro freaking out all the time and jumpping alot...a night lite calmer never freaking out, has jumpped once since the leaving the light on and that was cause one of my tsns freaked out after my pacu freaked out....it was a freak fest in the tank... as for the constant swimming that seems to be the way of the aro, though they do seem to slow down with a larger size...

IME, i've never seen my silvers rest. they seem to be constant swimmers. like most sharks.

Thanks for the info! I guess I have nothing to worry about then. My aro likes to jump all the time. I'm really digging the moonlights and I'm glad you guys have had no probs.
