Whats up guys,
I bought a 6'' silver aro yesterday and when I was at the pet store the salesman told me that the only thing he could get this fish to eat was rosy reds so I bought 20 of them to hold him off until I could get him on a healthy diet.

Last night I tried to put a rosy red in the tank but he was not interested in it(a good thing). After that I tried a couple floating hikari gold pellet for cichlids and he ate it up like theres no tomorrow.
Every thing else that I have tried that is supposed to be healthy for him just sinks and he does not go to the bottom of the tank to get it.

No stores around me sells pellets for arowana and I want him on a healthy diet.

How do you guys get your aro's to eat food that sinks?

Once you aro is eagerly eating, it will gulp up foods before they sink. Best thing is your aro is eating pellets, I would expand the diet to occasionally include crickets and freeze dried shrimp. Another trick you can use for frozen shrimp or fish fillets is to use a veggie feeder, but soon your aro will just take the food from your fingers.

Keep the freeze dried to once or twice a week. Feeding to much has been suggested to cause digestive problems. Same with the crickets just once or twice weekly, most aro love these and will have a tendency to start ignoring other foods. Live earth worms or meal worms are other possible menu items.

I am glad you told me that about freeze dried, I gave him some and he loves it.Now I know not to feed it to him too often.
He is still eating pellets and I tried blood worms but it fell apart and sank before He could find it.
If you can tell me where I can find SMALL aro pellets online that would be helpful, every I found pellets only had jumbo pellets.

Any other tips on healthy feeding will be acceped free of charge.

i feed mine hikary pellets, frozen blood worms (frozen so they can float),and crickets. but my arowana goes to the bottom to grab food so i feed her sinking pellets.

^ first I would never feed frozen foods that are not thawed, just common sense. I just feed large hikari cichlid gold, for smaller aros I just break up into smaller pieces. You can try freeze dried blood worms, they are a great first food for baby arowana, but yours is starting to get too big for the blood worms to fill him. They do float so most all get eaten.

Note to self, No more feeding my aro crickets. After eating it he refusedto eat anything else for a day and a half.

On a side note I have 2 more silver aro's coming in tuesday from snook21, I am so looking foreward to getting them in that I took a week off of work to watch them close when they come in.

The aro will take anything in its mouth once comfortable.........Few food bits will ever reach the floor of the tank........My aro has even gone to the bottom to eat off of it........Train the fish on pellets....Pellets is the number one staple everyday diet.........Then get some crickets, mealworms, and waxworms in there 3-4 times a weeks........The ultimate is frozen krill...........
