Hi everyone

So i searched alot on the net for a case just like mine couldnt find any, however this forum had the best experts as i can tell so thats why i signed :p

The case:
Came back from work n found my 4 yrs old silver aro hangin still upside down in my 10,000 liters pond, touched him n he seemed to move but hardly and struggling for balance (not swiming randomly as a bladder disease) he just seemed to litrally curl himself hard n then just freeze, after that if touched by me he will try his best to swim normally on top like he always do. But he seemed a bit better by maintaining balance later, 4 hours later he seemed rly bad and decided to take him to the ER tank where he dies slowly, mind u there is zero signs for sickness, except for a slight cloudy eyez, everything else seemed perfect, he even ate from my hands lastnight

Background:
I am not a begginer with fish or aquaruims and i always do my homework, Had him since he was tiny (abt 14cm) in a big community aquaruim and then when i started a koi pond he was one of the 1st to be inside,

Background abt the pond
The pond is 10 month old that is made by reputable company, everything is automated and filter cleaning water changes are done periodicaly, i started it in a summer where it can get rly hot here ( dubai 49c) and the aro seemed very hardy and not affected, had couple problems with algea but that usually happens with any new pond right, however in the winter like the last couple weeks it can get to around 10c in the night and knowing kois r superb to anything i never thought of heaters when i was building the pond

Conclusion
Is it decaying algea that killed him? His gills were abit greenish on the corners or is it the cold temp ?
What u think everyone ?

Thanks in advance and sry for making it long i just want to kno what happened

His still alive but dieing and not dead

Sorry for the mistakes in miss informations and typing as i was typing while in a shock,

More info, before transferring to the er tank ive put him in a bucket with water taken from the cold pond, put in a heater an gradually increase heat to reach the er tank temp, he is still strugglin breathin and not dead is there anything i can do :(

Its a super sad n frustrating scene to watch

Try slowly bringing the temp up to about 26 and add salt at one table spoon per ten gallons of water to help respiration. It sounds like it got too cold. If it's not too late it should pull through.

^^ this , also try get him in a container or tank that's big enough for him to feel comfortable , keep lights off him and keep a tight lid on things incase he suddenly jumps , hope he pulls through for you make sure the temp changes gradually give him time to recover without further shock , and keep plenty of oxygen in the water if adding salt
Good luck

It is really had to tell what the problem was. I don't think it was the temp since the decrease it so gradual and you said he was swimming normal. But I have come to see sometimes we never arrive at an answer.

I agree that it is too cold for him and very well could be the problem. What are the water parameters?

Thanks everyone for the inputs, he finally gave up, i think hes been strugglin for the last couple weeks with the cold night temps, and usually i check the pond later in the afternoon if not the evening ( where water temps will rise and maybe make him look normal )

Anyways ill take it as some asian societies believe "when an arowana dies in a household for any reason, it is often seen as a noble sacrifice that takes away any bad luck or misfortune that would otherwise have befallen that family"

Stay happy n positive everyone :)

Sorry for your loss :(
I'll try and re!ember your words of wisdom next time I lose an aro , and hope it takes my bad luck away.
Positive mental attitude I like it ;)

What sticks out for me is the eye cloud, makes me think there was an underlying reason for it.
