hey guys, what would you guys say the minimum tank size would be for a Silver Arowana to thrive? would it be ok permanently in a 6' tank?

which Arowana requires the smallest tank to be happy? i was either going with a Jardini or a Silver, preferably silver but whichever requires the smaller tank for happiness.

The minimum tank size for a silver IMO is an 8'x2'x2'....Although if you could provide a tank with 30" width it would benifit the fish GREATLY.

These are the sizes I beleive are minimum...however...there are plenty of other hobbyists that keep arowanas in 6x2x2 and seem to have no problems.

You would have a better chance keeping a jardini in a 6x2x2. They do not get as big as silvers, however they are also not as flexible so keep that in mind.

hmm, see, if i wasnt 15 and didnt only have a bed room to work with id buy a custom tank of 8'x3'x2', but i have JUST enough room on my wall for a 6' tank, and with my bed there it only allows 28" approx. damn.

so do you think id have a better chance with the Jardini or the silver? i really like silver which is why i asked.

is there any other kind for a reasonable price that would go better then these 2?

i also prefer the silvers because they dont tend to have attitude problems like the Jardinis do LOL

how long does it take for a Silver to get over 24"?

Like I said you could do it comfortably in a 6x2x2. Many hobbyists do.

But there is a chance the silver could feel cramped and decide to jump.

You could easily get at least 2 years out of a 6x2x2.

I think either aro would be fine in a 6x2x2 for around 3~4 years, assuming ya start with a 6". At that time you'll then probably have to giveit away anyhow. At 19y.o. what will you be doing? Possibly going to college, not to many dorms that are gonna allow a monster tank. Maybe you'll be out on your own, now you'll be limited on the places that you can rent that will allow monster tanks, not to mention if you could even afford such at that time.

But you stated that the largest tank you could have there is the 6 footer, so in 4 years it is likely your will have to get rid of the arowana.

LOL, guess i never thought it through well enough...lemme think on this and ill get back to you! hehe.

i think i may go with a dovii instead if i get this tank, at least he will be ok in there longer.

Ya I'm not telling ya to not get him just trying to give ya an idea of what will happen down the road.

This is what parents do, I have a 15y.o. myself

sucks to be you... LMAO, i couldnt imagine having to deal with myself, i dunno how my parents do it! LOL, but anyway.

i think ive decided, if i can get a 180, to go with Dovii instead, because i would feel terrible if the aro actually attained its full size and it was stuck in a tiny 180.

thanx for the honest opinions, maybe ill wait till i have my own house so i can build a covered indoor pond LOL
