I have a 12" silver aro that I rescued, but I can't get it to eat anything. Its been about 2 weeks. I am at a loss, tried live feeders, fresh fish, shrimp, pellets... Water quality is good, temp is 80*, ph is a bit high at almost 8 (suspect this could be the problem). Any thoughts or tips? Also wondering how long a fish could go without eating, I am starting to get concerned.

Sound like your doing everything right. Just make sure his water is clean and keep doing what your doing. An aro that big can go a while without eating. Does he at least mouth the food or give chase? I've had an aro that was so docile he wouldn't bother his tank mates. Maybe you can ask who you got it from what they fed it in the past. If you really want him to eat. Try crickets. I've never had an aro turn his nose to crickets.

Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be interested in anything, he doesn't chase anything. He actually swims away when I put anything in front of him. I have not tried crickets, I will try that next.

I put several large pieces of bog wood to see if I can get the ph down a bit, seems like it might be working. He is finally chase food when I toss it towards him, but still haven't actually seen him eat. I hope to get some crickets tonight, hopefully he will take them.

Good luck. Seems like he's coming around.

I have to second the crickets. My silver is in love with frozen krill, might be worth a shot.

I will try that next. He didn't hit the crickets, but I threw some more massivor pellets in and he was trying to eat those. He wouldn't keep them down though, just kept spitting them out.

Sounds like a picky eater. My silver used to take earthworms, now he will on play with them and spit them out. Unless I skip a feeding day. Lol

Maybe try the carnivore pellets. They are smaller. Or break up a massivore pellet before wasting any more money on such a difficult aro... He's seems like he is coming around though. I would offer the massivore again. Seems like he's interested. He might take a smaller piece.

I took your advice and went back to the pellets, and finally I saw him eat some. Seems like the pellets have to soften up a bit and the he takes them.
Thanks for all the advise guys!
