Is a normal for a silver to be swimming around with mouth opening and closing everytime? Is that a sign or breathing heavily?

If its abnormal whats the cause? Issit coz of nitrates?

No, it is not normal for aros to breath heavily. My aros sometimes swim with barely perceptable chewing motion, but the gill plates are not working hard.

Hmmm, could be problem with ammonia or nitrites. did you check those? Water change (with dechlorination) should do the trick assuming the tank is cycled.

HMmmm the gills are not working hard, but the mouth is always opening and closing like its chewing something... As far as i remember it doesnt have this habit so it got me worried...

Ammonia and nitrates seems to be normal I and just did a water change... lets hope for the best...

Yah, so long as ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are cool then you are OK (assuming your tank is cycled and reasonably large for the fish). Don't sweat it, my silver aros do that slow chewing motion with mouth but gill plates are not rapidly opening and closing

PS: you do regular water changes (with de-chlorinator), right?

Phew ^^b Glad to hear that too... Yep I do regular water changes once a week.

Juz abit of deviation... = What colours are ur silver aros? Mine has silvery greenish and pinkish yellowish fins with sorta "exotic" designs.

you need a powerhead, your tank doesnt have enough oxygen btw whats your tempature?

Problem solved... It seems that its indead not enough oxygen in the water.

Thanks to all the valuable advice that was given to me.

@ Hao
I didnt keep track of the temperature... Normal water temperature =x

oh lol the tempature can sometimes play the role
