I have heard many diff water temps recomended for my baby aro but which should i listen too..... first i heard 82, then 84-86, but when i tried 86 i noticed he was gasping his mouth more for air b/c of the low o2 lvls in the warm water so i went down to 82.

But the problem is my heater is all funky if i put it at 82 over night it will sky rocket to the mid 80's
approaching this problem i decided to unplug my heater everynight as to not have such a radical change, this seems to work but depending on the nights it can drop to 79,80

My other question is, is this fluctuation between 79-82 throughout the day unhealthy for my little guy?

First thing, get a new heater. I keep my aros at 80 degrees. 86 is pretty high for them, I would stay to the higher 70s an lower 80s. The temp swing shouldn't be too bad on him, but I'd recommend trying to make it more stable.

:iagree:
I keep my aros at 80. I'll second the new heater advice.

if youre that worried about change maybe a kind of thermostat. shouldnt change that much at night.

change for the better heater. i also have this old heater that doesnt stop heating the tank.
get the one that has a regulator on it. that will stop heating the tank when the desired temp is reached. throw those cheap heaters u dont wanna see one morning all fish are boiled up! :(

I keep those heaters that don't work good around still for help temping water. Great to bring water to a temp, if you have enough heaters 30 gallons can heat up to 80 from 60 in only a couple minutes. :D

New heater time. I keep mine at 82 F in the winter time and 84-86 in the summer. The higher the temp the more motabolism they will have therefore they will need more food and will grow faster.
Just my 2 cent's.
