So after reading up on silvers, I am worried about getting one. With being more disease prone as compared to the other arows, is it worth getting a silver? I have also found a place that has young ones for $10. Is that a screaming deal or not, and I am concerned with them still having yoke sacks; is that an issue to be concerned about?

i think maybe you can give a shot for a 5-7 inch silver, the one with the yolk quiet fragile

taking part of silver arowana is just easy....standby a aquarium with a clean water..prepare the filtration, and let the tank run for 24 hours suggested to have a big size tank since the silver grow very fast...but if you have an extra budget, just buy any small size tank, let say 2 foot x 1 foot...the reason is, to make it easy while feeding the baby, larger tank sometimes really hard to see the small baby catch the food..

i am not sure about the water condition at your country, but if can, you may want to buy a manual pH tester, suitable pH for arowana is from 6.5 to 7.2

Why do you think silvers are more disease prone?

silver aro are more to get drop eye syndrome, i think about 80% of the silver aro, no matter living in wild or in a tank will have this syndrome

other diseases like gills, fungus etc etc, it is depending on how is the water quality, what you have put in your tank, what kind inhabitant living together with the aro

you giving a good care to those, you will keep vets away

I currently have 3 12"+ silvers without dropeye. Dropeye is quite common but they are no more prone to disease than other aros.

i must say, silver arowana is the one really easy to be keep and really suitable for beginner

it has it own beauty, when it come the the big size as yours, you can see the beauty was design on the long body shape, and it was really lovely to see when the silver aro start to make the 'S' position, waiting to strike the food

Hey Josh.. All fish (especially the ones we all love in mfk) come with big responsibility, big appetites and heartburn over our wallets getting burnt like crazy.. just kidding.. apart from what helangkawi and knh have been discussing.. a silver arowana is one of the hardiest aros around.. but again it all depends on what sorta care you put into their upkeep.. i'm sure you are aware of the basic needs of monster fish.. large tanks.. excellent filtration, varied diet etc etc.. imho silvers are awesome fish.. it also depends on is a silver that you really want? i have 4 silvers.. they are great fish.. think about it..cheers.. all the best..
