thanks for sharing, very interesting read, hopefully they will eventually change their collecting practices.
 
Nice read, but notice that silvers are not cauight primarily for purposes of fry collection, BUT because they are considered as food by the riverine people. So they will continue to catch them for food, if not for fry collection and they will, eventually, reach a depleted state as have the asians, the black and the Leichardti.

Very true. Also notice that they are banned from export from Brazil, not because of over fishing for aquarium, but because they are a food source for the indigenous people. :popcorn:
 
Good read. I had no idea that the exportation numbers were that high...and from a single country none the less.
 
Great read, although I think closer monitoring of the species is needed and should not be over looked until the time comes when they go figure that something must be done for the survival of the fish. Hmmmm, reminds me about the whole ozone layer thing. ;)
