So I got this 6" silver a week ago and he seems kinda skittish like some other arows I had. But hes living with fancy goldfish for now but he likes to hide behind the driftwood near the bottom on the tank and around the plants. I'm wondering is this normal for an arow to stay on the bottom instead of swimming up top. I mean he swims around occasionally but not like I want it to

Silver arowana that size are best kept without tankmates. What size tank? Is it eating for you? Floating plants will do alot to make the arowana feel more secure.

Just stress. Keep the lights off and warm the tank up a little bit.

Hate this kind of advice, wouldn't you need to know the current temp of the tank before suggesting to "warm" it up?

True I guess I should have asked what his current temp is. When my aro was stressed I warmed it up to about 84.

To answer your question: no arowanas should almost always be at the top of the tank and constantly moving. As stated above, your arowana seems like it is suffering from stress and stress coat will definitely help. Also, you could try using some arowana vitamin from hikari. I used it with my arowana and it always kept him healthy. In addition, it would be good to condition your water to the arowanas preference. Basically, arowanas like soft water with a low ph (6.0-7.0). They are very hardy and can live in higher ph but they would thrive in a lower ph. So if your water isn't right, do some water changes and add some stress coat or arowana vitamin. Sorry for the long answer haha

Hopefully I can grow him out since he's eating so much and get him to 8" soon so he can live with my days without being eaten. How fast do u think it will take the arow to not 8"?
