Firstly, I have a niche about starting threads that are already being discussed...
So if this is another case of that, I apologize.
I bought a silver arowana from Uncle Bills.
He survived the long journey home without any issues.
I went through the process of introducing him into the tank everything went fine.
After a few hours I tried feeding him, doesn't eat pellets or flakes, he ate tiny strips of deli beef and a few strips of tilapia filet.
However he hasn't eaten within a 24 hour period "that I've seen", i left a few pellets and flakes floating.
He's about 4-5 inches.
Looks to have great health, anal fin looks a little abused... No pun intended.
The water condition is almost immaculate, the temperature is anywhere from 75-80f.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

i was going to say don't worry about a silver fasting for awhile.. my big girl has gone 6 weeks with out eating,, but then i saw how small yours is..just a baby really..if he ate good the first time.. wonderful... but i do not understand why you fed beef........ i do not think this is good for arowana ... whether raw or cooked.. what this baby needs right now is blood worms.. and then after a few weeks start introducing other wholesome food.. you introduced chemicals when you fed him processed deli beef.... also i would not panic yet.. he is new in the tank.. just getting used to it all.. he ate...... let him relax...

24 hours? Most fish can go as much as 3-4 MONTHS without food. Predatory Fish in the wild typically go 1 month between feedings. Thats the average if fed a high protein diet. If you want safety then i wouldnt go over maybe 2 months. Fish arent like humans, personally i would only be feeding you fish once or twice a week. Unless your dealing with babies or very young fish. Still i would only feed fry once a day and very younglings maybe every other day.

With an aro that size you'll wanna run your temp in the 83-84* range. This will help with appietite also. Just give him a day or soand he should start eating. I would just go with pellets, he should start showing some interest fairly soon. Once he is eating pellets regularly you can expand the diet to many other things.

An aro that size should be fed 2-3 times daily.

Bigglesworth, a young aro is not going to go one month without food let alone 3-4 months :duh:

Thanks to all that replied. I'll leave him be for now.. Just worried is all lol. But 3-4 months...without eating...insane.
I'll try and buy bloodworms asap.
Thanks again.

I have always used crickets to get the appetite going (even with new arrows), arrows love crickets. My 26 inch arrow would go on hunger strikes but he would always eat crickets so if I was ever worried about him not eating I would just throw crickets in tank and he would smash them and he would always go back on his regular diet afterwards. But good water quality is a must though.

this is a good idea for hunger striking older arows.. not for babies.. you do not want the babies enjoying live food and then have to fast them because they won't eat pellets and other good nutritious foods.. live food is always last resort in my life.. and you would need some very tiny crickets for a 4 or 5 inch arowana baby...
