I have a 22 inch silver arowana in a 55gal tank. I know I'm an idiot, but I didn't realize my leasing office wouldn't let me keep anything bigger than my 55gal in my apartment on the second floor. I thought I could have a 125gal, but no go.
He can swim around pretty well, weaves through rocks and logs I have on the bottom of the tank, seems happy, eats well.
The tank has a small canister filter rated for 90gal and a back of tank type filter rated for 60 gal. I also do fifty percent water changes every week. The water quality is very good.. measures safely in all parameters of my test kit.
How much would you guess this guy will grow in the next six months now that it's 2/3 it's full size? Does grow more slowly?
What adverse effects does this situation have on it's health? Can I hang on untill I move this summer (my wife-to-be is letting me set up a 210 in our living room), or should I donate him to a LFS to find him a better home... ASAP?
I love my Aro and want the best for him....help me out.:(

I would say donate him but there are alot of people who cram big fish in small tanks so he could end up the same there. IMO I would donate him or sell cheaply to someone on this forum that might have a big enough tank and start over whenever you get a bigger tank. 210g really isn't enough, you need a tank 30" wide at least..

OK, well what is big enough? I'm not opposed to a heated pond!!
I could smuggle him into the aquarium downtown and toss him in the arowana display.:)

Personally I think a 210 would be enough for quite a while. What I personally would do in your shoes would be to find a good home for him with a friend for a while, and when you move get him back. Kind of a baby sitter for a few months.

KEEp it.. u bought it. He'll make a great display piece for your 210 for about 6 months... Whatever i bet the Aro would rather be cramped in a 210 then being cramped in a 55!

yeah, a 300G is the generally accepted minimum tank size for a full grown silver, or a tank that is at least 3 feet wide and 6-7 feet long. do him a favor, donate him until you can get that 210G. that will probably keep him for quite a while
