Ok, so. I saw a Silver Arowana for sale at my lfs at about 4-5". They are somewhat rare(ish) in my location so was pleased to see them available for once. I have been after one for as long as I can remember but I have a slight query that I need help with.

I currently have Oscars around the same size as the Arowana, will they be ok together? I ask because I know that Oscars can be quite boisterous as infants and with me never kept Arowana before I don't know how tough they are at such a size. I do have the sump as back-up to grow it on bigger should things turn sour, I even have a bigger 4ft tank (slightly more water volume to the sump.) that I could make available for the Arowana if needs be.

I really hope they will be good as juveniles, as it will help them learn to tolerate one another as they grow older.

Cheers in advance fellow fishkeepers.

I voted no...get rid of the Oscar & grow out your Arowana 1st...Silver Arowana are timid till about 1ft...;)

Thanks for the quick reply man! Shame really because I like them. Can't get rid of my beloved Oscars lol. I may just get one chance it and then put into a 4ft if it turns sour. If I knew for sure what they was like to keep it would be easier to make a decision but with already keeping Oscars I know exactly what they are like and they are a real characteristic fish lol.

Jordys correct the Oscar will nail the aro at that size , defo a NO vote from me too

Guys, I went ahead and bought to try it out. I have a 4ft back up tank to help it grow on if these oscars dont take. At first, as expected the Oscars wouldnt leav it alone. They werent attacking. Just being curious as oscars are. It did spook the Arrow and they do stil follow it from time to time. What I have done to help it is float loads of wood and leaves on the surface to give it a lot of cover and to break the line of sight up and it seems to help. The longer it stays in the more the oscars dont bother it which is a relief. Question I have though, is what is Arrow favoured water movement? Slow or fast? After a quick google search I am getting a varied result.

Also as a side note, the lfs I bought it from had it previously housed in a tiny tank with a blue pearl flowerhorn so I am sure it is probably used to being chased about a little bit by now. The oscars have pretty much given up on it now. They only bother when the late botherers bother it and it swims about in a panic. Other than that, it seems pretty fine

*Update, Arowana is doing great. Starting to eat pellets too which is great to see considering the notorious difficulty surrounding them and trying to feed pellets. I feed it (along with his/her tank mates) Hikari Cichlid Gold, and to persuade him to eat it I would stick the pellets in at the same time as things such as freeze dried Bloodworm and freeze dried Brine Shrimp. Strangely I struggle feeding him/her prawn which I thought would be the easiest to feed it. I guess it rings true not all fish are the same eh? haha.

It worked for me with no problem. It's go for it or no. But I read some threads with disaster.
Here we go pic. :)

NICE! haha I have heard more success than I have disaster stories, but thats only with larger specimens. I was just a little weary about them being small but all seems well.

this arowana on pic is 23 '' and those are full grown oscars :) Tnx mate. I'm hoping it will work for you.
