Hey guys, haizz... My two year old silver was attacked by my pacu from below.. Big part of his anal fin are ripped and some part of the meat too :irked: Now he can't balance himself in the water, still got some energy in him but his head is floating sideways and his tail pointing straight down.. So now he looks pretty much like an inverted L. I tried helping him balance, I can feel that he is trying to swim but then once I let go he floats to same position again.. Removed my pacu and it's in a bucket now with an airstone. He's been suffering like that for 5 hours, but he isn't gulping in water that much now. Now I'm just praying and hoping the best for him.

Now the question is is there anything I could do and why is it that he's floating like that?

First things first.. give that pacu away.. i gave both my pacu away.. in some ways i do regret it but ya if its my aros of the pacu.. then the pacu had to go.. can you post a picture of the aro? i guess people can suggest only if they see how bad or not bad it looks.. dont stress the aro by touching it.. try to add a couple more pumps and keep the oxygen high.. if there are any more tankmates.. i'd suggest you move them out.. fingers crossed mate.. damn pacu..

poor thing... hope he will recover soon..

you could lower the water level if there is nothing on the bottom of the tank and keep an eye on it but it will help him so he doesnt hang down he wont have to try so hard to balance him self

thats why pacu and aros don't mix. as for right now there isn't much you can do. it will or will not make it. there is nothing you can do that hasn't been suggested. holding it upright might work for a small time, but it will need to heal. if you could make something to hold it up right it might help, but it looks grim. i held my aro upright after it jumped out and was almost dead. it came back. hope all goes well for your aro. if not then you should learn from this and try with another. best of luck.

Whenever a fish has a wound where the flesh is open or punctured, I typically dose with salt so the poor guy doesn't intake too much water via osmosis and drown. Also helps to heal the wound. GL.
