in NY waiting to get cancer
did u guys know that feeder fishes are actually good for arowanas. just feed once every 3 days but quarantine them first in case of parasites. and dropped eye doesn't come from too much fatty foods because if it did, other fishes would get dropped eye too. i learned from an experienced arowana breeder that an arowana uses it's right eye to look down and uses it's left eye to look up. its rare for arowanas to have both dropped eye. check for pics or vids if u don't believe me.

very interesting,i learn sumthing new everyday, thank you for da info :D

Does he breed asians though? And nobody quite understands how drop eye is formed...

DE is due to many UNKNOWN factors...it could be fatty food, it also can be genetics, it can also be due to extreme trauma from a hit on the glass and many other factors....
There is nothing wrong with feeding a silver feeders or any fish at that but its safer and recommended to breed your own, or quarantine them first before feeding.

I still long to wait for the day how arowanas develop DE, to be answered and backed up with scientific evidence.

Otherwise great info on your part too! :D

Hmm, so whats the nutritional content exactly of feeders so I can compare to the many better food choices out there? What makes this person such an expert again? Species specific biologist? Or just some guy who has bred em before? How does he know what so many others not?

Most feeder fish are crap. The fish are barely even alive, so how could this possibly be a healthy food choice?

I have an silver aro with DE in both eyes. IMO the arowana breeder you talked with was full of it. Silver arowana use both eyes to look forward, like most predators they need to use depth perception to capture their prey. Silver arowana have peripheral vision, this is how they see above and below.

I draw this conclusion from watching my 3 aros(2 silver and a black) and watch the videos of wild SA aros on youtube.

You can bulk up your feeders and quarantine them at the same time. Feed them a good quality food with vitamins added. By the time you get them out of quarantine, they'll be a healthy food for your aros.

Or you could just not waste time and money gut loading feeders and feed your Aro quality food.

Thats a load of BS right there. And their right eye does not look down while the left looks up...if it were you or hebe, Id rather take Hebe's advice...
