Silver arowana chasiong his tail

Hello everyone
I am having a silver arowana about 13'' (just a guess because its really hard to measure)..i have been noticing for the past few days that he has started to chase his tail he has also torn his tail fin a little..any idea why is he doing that ? i have never noticed him doing that before..he swims normal and then suddenly starts to chase his tail and then after sometime he is back to normal..he is in a 60'' x 18'' x 18'' tank (no tankmates)..i have already ordered a new tank for him but it may take some time.. This is the first time I've heard of arowana chasing it's own tail. Maybe you're arowana is a half dog.

parasite / worm infection ? any red streaks or spots on the fin and tail ? look closely for worm...

Usually tail chasing is a sign of small tank.

Add a tankmate or currents to keep him occupied

hey cichlidL.. same story.. happened to one of my aros like some 2 years back.. and this guy is the largest aro i have now.. never happened with the other aros.. the caudal fin never grew back right.. little frayed but its not bad.. i could never figure out why.. it stopped after i moved them all into a community of aros.. so its only a guess.. like 8usmickey says.. time to upgrade the tank and add some tankmates.. prob some silver dollars.. about 6.. and big enough.. cheers
