I have had my juvi silver arowana for about 5 days, so far the only thing i can get him to eat is frozen bllood worms. At the fish store i got him from they told me he was eating NLS pellets. I use the same food just a larger size in the tank hes in. My question is, is it normal for him to still be refusing everything besides the blood worms. I have done my research and i understand they can be skittish, but it seems like if this were the issue he would be refusing all food. Could the pellet size be the issue( i don't think they are too large for him to eat)? Anyway any help on tricks to getting him to accept pellets would be great, i want to make sure hes getting a balanced diet.

BTW, hes in a 180 for now with severums and eartheaters, temp is around 79, ammonia/nitrate/nitrite all in check, ph is high but its the same as the lfs( just our local water), filtration- fx5, two whisper ex70s

*I know a 180 gallon will not support a full grown silver arowana.

well its good that its at least eating the blood worms unlikely silver aro try feeding it beef heart also good

From my experience, beef heart will be accepted readily, its bloody and smelly and nice for the fish.
but from what i have seen also, the look of a silver or a jar fed on beef heart as a main diet does not retain a nice shine and gloss. they almost turn dull off white colour.

i would suggest prawns, with or without shell, just cut the sharp bits off.
the shell will help it retain its gloss

iw ould suggest to stop feeding bloodworm immediatley, this will spoil it.
feed fish fillets or prawns as a main diet, occasional beef t help pump the protein. but if you can starve it and get it to eat NLS (if they have been feeding NLS) stick with that as 60% to 70% of its diet

i had a black arowana, and my rule was - no pellets, no meaty foods.
so in the morning, i would feed hikari arowana sticks.
if it ate plenty of sticks, then evening come i will feed prawns or insects like locusts.

but if not, then i try pellets again at night, so daily it ate pellets.

this way, its getting quality highly digestible proteins from the pellets.

To be honest, I don't think feeding pellets to juvenile silvers is the best anyways; its just not as healthy as ACTUAL food. Get him on things like krill, prawn, different kinds of shrimps mostly. The reason for the shrimps is this makes up much of their diet in the wild; they dive down to sand beds to eat river shrimp. On top of that, look for stuff like earth-worms/nightcrawlers. Silver-sides once a week. Raw chicken is also good because large silver aros eat birds. Variety is the key. Best of luck :).

EDIT
It really depends on how hard you want to try. Lizards are very healthy, nutritious, and natural (I don't do it myself because I don't have the heart to feed something live to my fish =s). If you know somewhere to get them, centipedes are wonderful. Asian fish farmers use them because they believe it enhances color. Crickets are very good if you can get them gut-loaded, and the same with mealworms. I wouldn't recommend beef-heart though. Red meat isn't very good (are they eating cows in the Amazon? I think not.) It also makes the water VERY dirty in my experience.
